Wrong way, a machinima by Kristine Blackadder

This picture is a screen capture from the Machinima ‘Wrong Way’ by Kristine Blackadder

When life almost kills you

I hardly know Kristine Blackadder, only a little bit via her friend Stories, but that’s no obstacle to feel she has a deep sense for human emotions. Kristine creates Machinima movies in SL, amongst other things, and does that in a minimalistic way. We all know the power of minimalism, the less is more concept, and how it can draw you into a feeling  like a vortex. But you have to let it happen to yourself to feel it. Close down all other stimuli to temporarily enter another orbit. That’s what I did with Kristine’s machinima called ‘Wrong Way’. I dimmed the lights in my room like in a cinema, put on a headphone for better sound, raised volume and watched fullscreen.

The moment the movie and music started I was warped back in time. My mind connected with my RL past, long ago, yet still so close as well, because the mind keeps it alive in certain ways, sensitive for triggers, activating the other world I once lived in from time to time. That other world was a very disconnected one, isolated and extremely lonely. Fears ruled, with a ruthless force, together with compulsive rituals and a total social lockdown. When you live isolated against your wishes and feel like being trapped in a RL nightmare, you feel like life will kill you anytime soon.

No more, no more, no more, was my daily desperate credo . .  I can’t take no more!
But the days passed by and destruction increased. Life began to kill me and there was no way out.

The movie by Kristine

Even when in total isolation from what is called the normal (and hectic) world, you can have an incredible chaos in your head and life. It does not only destruct your own mind, but also the minds of the ones that care for you. They can see and hear you, but cannot reach and help you. I can see and hear them as well, but fail to feel their support, only experience it as another threat from that other world I do not belong to. I want to, but I cannot. And because I cannot I feel weak, bad, lost, silly, stupid and unloved. Kristine shows all of that in a very intense way. She stripped the environment, it’s black only, like the mind when it goes dark. She has no tools and attributes  . . .  the mind has to do it by itself. She moves around slow, fast, scared and, hunted down, searching for the right way. A torturous walk through endless insecurities and fears. Every step feeds the hope it will be ok now, but the feet lose control and the mind as well. Hope is replaced by despair and all there is left to do is to take another ride in the vicious circles of disordered realities with no option to focus on a way out.

Music and scenery

The music used for this machinima is from Muse, from the album ‘The 2nd Law’ and is called: Isolated System. Simply perfect and also a minimalist song in its lyrics and melody. The way it is filmed is mesmerising and haunting, with scenes floating into each other like a fluid. Hazy views change into clear ones but lose the clarity again when moving on.  A true battle against isolation and dystopia. A quest for survival.

…..

To feel or not to feel

I don’t blame you when not feeling all of this while watching the machinima. I only tell you you will miss an incredibly emotional  experience if you don’t. But not all can be a mirror for us.  We all have our own mirrors that speak to us and reflect our deepest emotions, connecting with our inner self for making a ballade, a dance, a story revisited inside yourself. And FYI, I did found my way out, in my own ballade and dance. But it took many years.

    • Thanks for your thoughtful and sweet comment.I appreciate very much and it stimulates me to keep writing in a world that will be dominated more and more by visuals only. Words matter to me, I cannot do without expressing my feelings into words. A picture or movie is another form to do so. I value both equally.
